Sensex slips back to lower levels, down over 400pts

The Sensex has slipped back to lower levels and is now down 406 points at 8,964.

ICICI Bank has slumped 8.5% to Rs 404. Jaiprakash Associates has tumbled over 8% to Rs 65.

Tata Steel and Sterlite have plunged 6.7% each to Rs 199 and Rs 255, respectively.

HDFC Bank and Reliance Communications have dropped around 6.5% each to Rs 916 and Rs 173, respectively.

Wipro and Infosys have slipped 5.7% each to Rs 230 and Rs 1,231, respectively.

DLF and Tata Motors have declined 5.5% each to Rs 200 and Rs 148, respectively.

TCS has shed nearly 5% at Rs 512. SBI and Hindalco are down 4.5% each at Rs 1,146 and Rs 48, respectively.

 

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,299 stocks traded so far, 1,627 have declined, 588 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
