Sensex slips further into red, down 181pts

The Sensex has slipped further into the red to 11,972. It is now down 181 points at 11,977.

The Sensex has extended losses and is now down 115 points at 12043. The index dropped to a low of 11,999, down 212 points from the day's high.

Tata Steel and Sterlite have shed 3% each to Rs 267 and Rs 478, respectively. ONGC, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank and Infosys have declined 2.5% each.

Wipro, Ranbaxy, TCS and ITC have dropped 2% each to Rs 367, Rs 172, Rs 626 and Rs 189, respectively.

SBI, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, Reliance, Reliance Communications, Sun Pharma and Tata Motors are the other major losers.

 

On the other hand, DLF has surged 4.5% to Rs 247. HDFC and ACC have advanced 3% each to Rs 1,903 and 611.

Reliance Infrastructure, Grasim and Hindalco have moved up around 1% each.

The market breadth is marginally positive - out of 2,225 stocks traded, 1,129 have advanced while 1,003 have declined.
