Sensex slips into red; Tata Steel gains 6%

The Sensex opened 112 points higher at 8,851, touched a high of 8,855, but soon pared gains and has now slipped into the negative zone. The index is now down nine points at 8,730.

Tata Steel has surged 5.5% to Rs 157. Larsen & Toubro and HDFC have moved up 1.7% each to Rs 691 and Rs 1,414, respectively.

Reliance has gained 1.5% at Rs 1,090. ACC and Tata Motors are up 1% each at Rs 409 and Rs 130, respectively.

Hindalco has shed 2.3% at Rs 51. Sterlite and Maruti have slipped 2% each to Rs 226 and Rs 451, respectively.

 

Infosys has dropped 1.8% to Rs 1,188. NTPC and Bharti Airtel have declined around 1.5% each to Rs 158 and Rs 662, respectively.

ONGC, TCS and Wipro are down over 1% each at Rs 656, Rs 529 and Rs 231, respectively.
