Sensex slips; ONGC, ITC decline

The market failed to hold on to its gains and has eased in the afternoon trades on sustained selling pressure in heavyweights and other select old economy stocks.

The Sensex, which touched a low of 6,898, is now down seven points at 6,901. The Nifty, too, has slipped from higher levels with a points loss at 2,166.

ONGC has shed 1.11% (Rs 10) to Rs 921. While ITC has dropped 1.65% (Rs 23) to Rs 1,357, Reliance is down Rs 2 at Rs 592. HLL, however, is up a tad at Rs 144.

Infosys (down Rs 5 to Rs 2,227) is trading at subdued levels. Wipro and Satyam are trading with marginal gains at Rs 707 and Rs 418, respectively.

HDFC Bank has slipped a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 609. SBI and ICICI Bank are trading with steady gains at Rs 745 and Rs 394, respectively.

HDFC has lost 1.18% (Rs 10) to Rs 810, while BHEL is down a per cent (Rs 8) at Rs 825.

Bharti, however, is up 1.75% (Rs 4) at Rs 227, and HPCL is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 343. Tisco is up 1.36% (Rs 6) at Rs 437.
