Unabated selling in the market saw the Sensex slump to a low of 11,428 - down 275 points from the day's high of 11,703. The index is now down 201 points at 11,462. The selling is attributed to heavy selling by the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) in the futures & options segment on Monday. FIIs were net sellers of nearly Rs 2,000 crore. Technology stocks continue to lead the fall. TCS has shed 4.5% to Rs 1,810. Infosys and Wipro have slumped 3.3% each to Rs 3,084 and Rs 518, respectively. Satyam, too, has tumbled over 3% to Rs 810. Auto stocks are also fast losing ground. Tata Motors has plunged over 4% to Rs 911. Hero Honda has dropped 3.5% to Rs 839, and Maruti has shed 2.8% to Rs 860. Cipla and ITC have declined 3% each to Rs 703 and Rs 193, respectively. HDFC has dropped 2.8% to Rs 1,290. Grasim, Gujarat Ambuja, Larsen & Toubro, SBI and Tata Steel have declined over 2% each. Out of 2,548 stocks traded so far, 1,354 have declined, 1,132 have moved up and 62 are unchanged. |
