Sensex slumps 817pts; Tata Motors down 14%

FREE FALL CONTINUES ON THE DALAL STREET... The Sensex has touched a low of 10,122 - down 817 points.

The index had opened with a positive gap of 133 points at 11,072, and touched a high of 11,143 in opening trades.

Out of 2,216 stocks traded so far, 2,053 have tumbled, 140 have advanced and 23 are unchanged.

Most of the brokerages are not allowing any fresh positions in the futures & options segment for the current May series or the next series.

There is not a single gainer among the Sensex stocks.

Tata Motors has tumbled over 14% to Rs 728. NTPC and BHEL has plunged over 11% each to Rs 104 and Rs 1,740, respectively.

Hindalco has crashed over 10% to Rs 169.
