The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex snapped a nine-day rally on Tuesday, with operators and investors pausing to book profits on recent gains.
After trading in a wide range of 116.88 points, the Sensex shed 66.68 points to close at 3,765.82.
Heavyweights also closed lower on basket-selling by certain institutions. Losers outpaced gainers two to one, with a traded turnover of Rs 1,735.56 crore on the BSE.

The National Stock Exchange's S&P CNX Nifty fell 19.15 points to close at 1,184.45, with traded turnover of Rs 4,055.12 crore.
Bajaj Auto lost 4.39 per cent to Rs 637.65, off the day's high of Rs 663. Tata Motors, the largest truck and bus maker, shed 4.39 per cent to Rs 637.65, and Gujarat Ambuja Cements shed 5 per cent to close at Rs 223.45, off its 52-week high of Rs 240 in intra-day trades.
