Sensex soars 183pts, heavyweights join the rally

Heavy all-round buying has lifted the Sensex to a high of 9938. The index is now up 183 points at 9926.

ICICI Bank has surged 6.4% to Rs 1,363. HDFC has moved up 4.4% to Rs 1,363.

Larsen & Toubro has rallied 4% to Rs 2,288.

Reliance has spurted over 2% to Rs 712. Ranbaxy has gained 2% at Rs 398. HLL and ONGC, too, are up 2% each at Rs 194 and Rs 1,184, respectively.

ACC, Tata Power, Infosys, Satyam, Maruti, Cipla, Hero Honda, Dr.Reddy's, Bajaj Auto, BHEL and SBI have also gained smartly.

Out of 2,369 stocks traded so far, 1,512 have advanced, 792 have declined and the rest are unchanged.

Harrison Malyalam and Jayshree Tea have hit the 20% upper limit  each at Rs 131 and Rs 127, respectively. Bombay Burmah, Tulip IT, Williason Tea have posted significant gains.

Deccan Chronicle has declined 3.7% to Rs 425. Nitin Spinners, Aarti Industries, Jindal Photo, Hexaware, Punjab Tractors, IOC, Corporation Bank, Cummins, IBP and Bank of Baroda are in declining mode.
