Backed by the solid performance last week, the Sensex opened with a positive gap of 95 points at 13,479, and moved higher as the day progressed. Unabated buying in cement, metal, FMCG and oil stocks fueled today's rally. The Sensex touched a high of 13,708 before settling with a significant gain of 312 points (2.3%) at 13,696. The index has gained 582 points (4.4%) in the last two sessions. The BSE Oil & Gas index zoomed over 3% to 6769. The Metal index rallied 2.8% to 9561, and the FMCG index gained 2.6% to 1821. The Auto and IT indices moved up 1.5% each to 4889 and 5150, respectively. The BSE Mid-cap index was up 1.6% to 5666, and the Small-cap index gained 1.9% to 6884. The market breadth was positive - out of 2,655 stocks traded, 1,802 advanced, 779 declined and 74 were unchanged today. UP AGAIN... ACC soared over 5% to Rs 787. Grasim surged nearly 4% to Rs 2,375, and Gujarat Ambuja added over 3% to Rs 112. Tata Steel zoomed over 4% to Rs 533. Reliance Communications, ITC, Reliance and Tata Motors gained around 3.5% each at Rs 437, Rs 159, Rs 1,460 and Rs 750, respectively. Wipro, Hindalco, ONGC, HLL and Larsen & Toubro advanced over 3% each to Rs 587, Rs 145, Rs 900, Rs 214 and Rs 1,660, respectively. BHEL and Bharti Airtel moved up 2.7% each to Rs 2,547 and Rs 802, respectively. Infosys added 2% to Rs 2,128. VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS ICRA topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 303.65 crore followed by Orbit Corp (Rs 174.80 crore), Tata Steel (Rs 128.60 crore), Indiabulls (Rs 93.50 crore) and Reliance (Rs 93.35 crore). IFCI led the volume chart with trades of around 1.03 crore shares followed by Orbit Corp (1.01 crore), Tata Teleservices (83.65 lakh), Reliance Natural Resources (52.15 lakh) and Vishal Exports (50.30 lakh). |
