Sensex soars to a new peak of 10,778

The Sensex soared to a new all-time intra-day high of 10,778, and is now up 187 points at 10,761.

HDFC has moved up 3.4% to Rs 1,323. Larsen & Toubro and ITC have added 2.8% each to Rs 2,511 and Rs 178, respectively.

Cipla has gained 2.6% at Rs 590. While Bharti Tele is up 2.4% at Rs 392, TCS and Satyam are up 2.3% each at Rs 1,763 and Rs 804, respectively.

Hero Honda, Gujarat Ambuja and Hindalco have advanced over 2% each to Rs 899, Rs 100 and Rs 161, respectively.

Gainers continue to remain ahead of losers. Out of total of 2,539 stocks traded so far, 1,567 have gained, 896 have lost and the rest are unmoved.

Rayban Sun has zoomed nearly 19% to Rs 90.50. DCW, Tulip IT, Areva, Williamson Tea, Reliance Natural Resources, Classic Diamond, Hinduja TMT, Crompton Greves, Suzlon, GTL and Zee are trading with sharp gains.

Ramco System has dropped nearly 3% to Rs 243. Indo Gulf, Kotak Bank, Birla Corporation, MICO, IPCA Labs, EIH and Syngenta are the notable losers.
