Sensex steady

The markets, although on a firm ground, is witnessing a steady movement in the current trades as most of the stocks are trading at their earlier levels.

The Sensex, as a result, is up 41 points at 6,483. The Nifty has moved up 13 points to 2,058.

The market breadth is positive with gainers leading against losers in a ratio of 2:1. While 1,445 stocks have advanced, 724 declined and 56 have remained unchanged on the BSE so far.

Reliance (up Rs 10 or 1.91%), with a volume of over 15.95 lakh, is holding on to its gains. ITC is up Rs 3 at Rs 1,299. HLL is trading with marginal losses at Rs 144.

HDFC Bank at Rs 501 (up Rs 8 or 1.68%) and ICICI Bank at Rs 373 (up Rs 9 or 2.57%) are trading with decent gains. SBI is marginally up at Rs 609.

HPCL has advanced 2.56% (Rs 10) to Rs 384. While L&T is up 1.29% (Rs 13) at Rs 988, Tisco has logged 2.11% gains (Rs 7) to Rs 353.

ACC has moved up 1.65% (Rs 5) to Rs 323. Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja are up a per cent each at Rs 1,296 and Rs 395, respectively.

Infosys (down Rs 10 to Rs 2,056) is trading on a subdued note. While Wipro has gained 1.38% (Rs 10) to Rs 758, Satyam has added 1.12% (Rs 4) to Rs 407.

India Cement, on a volume of over 21.9 lakh, has soared 10.68% (Rs 6) to Rs 62 on reports of its board approving the preferential allotments of shares.

While Videocon, with a volume of over 13.45 lakh, has surged 8.42% (Rs 6) to Rs 74, Syndicate Bank has added 5.68% to Rs 62. Hind Zinc has shot up 5.51% to Rs 143, and CESC has gained 4.62% to Rs 154.

Reliance with a turnover of Rs 82 crore is leading the value chart, followed by Tata Chemicals (Rs 55 crore), Infosys (Rs 45 crore) and Tata Tele (Rs 42 crore), respectively.
