Sensex steady; ICICI Bank advances 3%

The Sensex steady around 9,084 - up 80 points. Earlier in the day, the index opened 74 points higher at 9,078, and touched a high of 9,117. The index, thereafter, pared gains and touched a low of 9,054.

Tata Motors has rallied 3.6% to Rs 145. ONGC, ICICI Bank and Wipro have surged over 3% each to Rs 642, Rs 394 and Rs 233, respectively.

Ranbaxy, ACC and Grasim have moved up 2.5% each to Rs 203, Rs 499 and Rs 1,208, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Sun Pharma and HDFC have advanced over 2% each to Rs 278, Rs 1,166 and Rs 1,477, respectively.

 

ITC has moved up 1.8% to Rs 174. HDFC Bank and Hindustan Unilever have moved up around 1.5% each to Rs 904 and Rs 257, respectively.

Reliance Communications has shed 4.5% at Rs 164, and Maruti has dropped nearly 4% to Rs 517.

Sterlite has slipped 3% to Rs 260. SBI and Tata Steel have declined around 1.5% each to Rs 1,072 and Rs 170, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates, BHEL and DLF are down around 1% each at Rs 64, Rs 1,365 and Rs 165, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly positive - out of 2,267 stocks traded so far, 1,147 have advanced, 1,009 have declined and 111 are unchanged.
