Sensex steady; market breadth +ve

The Sensex is displaying side-ways movement and is now up 191 points at 8,352. Earlier in the day, the index opened 115 points higher at 8,275, and soon touched a high of 8,376.

ICICI Bank has soared 6% to Rs 279. Sterlite and Maruti have surged 4.5% each to Rs 256 and Rs 680, respectively.

Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors and ITC have rallied around 4% each to Rs 225, Rs 142 and Rs 164, respectively.

Reliance, Sun Pharma and Infosys have moved up around 3.5% each to Rs 1,196, Rs 1,013 and Rs 1,237, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro and BHEL have advanced nearly 3% each to Rs 578 and Rs 1,336, respectively.

 

TCS, HDFC, Tata Steel and Jaiprakash Associates are up around 2.5% each at Rs 474, Rs 1,288, Rs 156 and Rs 67, respectively.

ONGC, Wipro and Mahindra & Mahindra are also up over 2% each.

Bharti Airtel has plunged nearly 4.5% to Rs 562. Tata Power has shed 2% at Rs 611.

The market breadth is marginally positive - out of 2,210 stocks traded so far, 1,113 have advanced, 1,001 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
