Sensex steady; ONGC slips 2%

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 129 points at 8,803. The index has touched a high of 8,875, and is now up 175 points at 8,849.

Sterlite has soared nearly 7% to Rs 256, and Tata Steel has surged 4.6% to Rs 174.

Jaiprakash Associates, Infosys and Grasim have rallied nearly 4% each to Rs 64, Rs 1,249 and Rs 1,179, respectively.

SBI, Maruti and Reliance have moved up around 3.5% each to Rs 1,079, Rs 534 and Rs 1,194, respectively.

Wipro, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Infrastructure have gained 3.3% each at Rs 221, Rs 636 and Rs 501, respectively.

 

HDFC Bank and TCS have advanced 3% each to Rs 899 and Rs 500, respectively.

ONGC has dropped over 2% to Rs 632. Reliance Communications has shed 1.7% at Rs 157.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Larsen & Toubro have declined over 1% each to Rs 261 and Rs 633, respectively.
