Sensex steady; Rel Infra, Tata Steel shed 4%

The Sensex is now up 37 points at 8,817. The index had opened with a positive gap of 126 points, and soon touched a high of 8,928 in early trades. Thereafter, the index pared gains and touched a low of 8,790.

Bharti Airtel has surged 6% to Rs 618. Grasim has moved up 2.7% to Rs 1,172, and Sterlite has added 2.5% to Rs 243.

ACC has advanced 2% to Rs 487. Jaiprakash Associates has moved up 1.6% to Rs 66.

Ranbaxy and Hindalco have slumped over 5% each to Rs 194 and Rs 45, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure has plunged 4.5% to Rs 497, and Tata Steel has shed 3.8% at Rs 182.

 

DLF and Mahindra & Mahindra have dropped around 3.5% each to Rs 175 and Rs 286, respectively.

Tata Motors has slipped over 3% to Rs 136, and Larsen & Toubro has declined over 2% to Rs 672.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,281 stocks traded so far, 1,454 have declined, 735 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
