Sensex steady, up 30 pts

The market holds in positive territory, although buying remains steady to slightly higher in select old and new economy stocks. While the Sensex has gained 30 points to 6,529, the Nifty is steady at 2,004 - up 12 points.

ONGC has scaled up 1.47% (Rs 12) to Rs 860. While Reliance has gained 1.54% (Rs 8) to Rs 528, HLL has inched lower by 1.31% (Rs 2) to Rs 128.

SBI (up Rs 4 to Rs 653), HDFC Bank (up Rs 3 to Rs 542) and ICICI Bank (up Rs 3 to Rs 399) are trading in narrow ranges.

Wipro and Satyam are up a per cent each at Rs 669 (up Rs 5) and Rs 447 (up Rs 4), respectively. Infosys (down Rs 3 to Rs 2,140), however, is still exhibiting a subdued trend.

Maruti has advanced 2.81% (Rs 12) to Rs 457. Bajaj and Tata Motors are up Rs 4 each at Rs 1,221 and Rs 436, respectively.

Bharti has gained 1.76% (Rs 4) to Rs 219, and BHEL is up 1.46% (Rs 12) at Rs 867. While Reliance Energy is trading with steady gains at Rs 485 - up Rs 9 or 1.93%, Zee is up 1.55% (Rs 2) at Rs 151. HDFC, however, has slipped a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 757.

Ranbaxy (up Rs 2 to Rs 980) and Dr. Reddy's (up Rs 3 to Rs 693) are trading with steady gains.
