Sensex surges 110 pts

After crossing the 6,300-mark in mid-morning trades, the index has remained firmed in the afternoon trades and touched a high of 6,361 following steep gains across-the-board. The Sensex, in current trades, has advanced 110 points to 6,349. The Nifty, too, has risen sharply on all-round buying support, and is up 37 points at 1,992.

Reliance, on volumes of over 26.29 lakh, has jumped 1.98% (Rs 10) to Rs 516. While ITC, on renewed buying support, has moved up 1.67% (Rs 23) to Rs 1,409, HLL is still up a per cent (Rs 2) at Rs 153.

SBI, with volumes of over 16.27 lakh, has spurted 4% (Rs 23) to Rs 605. While ICICI Bank has inched up by 2.21% (Rs 7) to Rs 345, HDFC Bank, after early weakness, has bounced back with a per cent gain (Rs 5) at Rs 537.

Infosys is holding on to its gains at Rs 1,988 - up Rs 37 or 1.87%. While Wipro has scaled up 2.37% (Rs 16) to Rs 690, Satyam is up 1.24% (Rs 5) at Rs 396.

ONGC is unchanged with a per cent gain (Rs 7) at Rs 796. Bharti has flared up nearly 4% (Rs 8) to Rs 218. While L&T has shot up 3.45% (Rs 31) to Rs 942, HPCL has gained 2.26% (Rs 8) to Rs 344.

While Tata Power has moved up 3.60% (Rs 13) to Rs 364, Zee, on volumes of over 13.78 lakh, is up a rupee at Rs 151.

Ranbaxy has surged 3.71% (Rs 38) to Rs 1,060. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla are up nearly 2% each at Rs 744 (up Rs 14) and Rs 273 (up Rs 5), respectively.

Gujarat Ambuja has advanced 3.36% (Rs 14) to Rs 434. While Grasim has added 1.26% (Rs 16) to Rs 1,309, ACC is up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 352.

Gillette, on reports of P&G buying it out, has shot up 8.75% (Rs 55) to Rs 685, while P&G has gained 4.76% (Rs 28) to Rs 614.

Capital goods and metal stocks have firmed up on strong gains. Usha Martin has advanced 6.63% (Rs 5) to Rs 80, and Esab has added 5.22% to Rs 144. While Praj Industries has notched up 5% gains to Rs 295, Crompton Greaves is up 3.57% at Rs 297. Havell India, however, has lost 3.88% (Rs 10) to Rs 240. Gammon is down 2% at Rs 710.

Essar Steel has soared 8% (Rs 3) to Rs 37, and Mukand Iron & Steel has jumped 6.65% to Rs 50. While Gujarat NRE Coke has moved up 4.80% to Rs 188, Saw Pipes has gained 3% to Rs 234. Sail, Jindal Vijaynagar Steel and Lloyd Steel are up nearly 3% at Rs 61, Rs 16 and Rs 13, respectively.
