Sensex surges 201pts; Wipro soars 5%

The Sensex is now up 201 points at 12,616.

The Mid-cap index has slipped 1.2% to 5130, and the Small-cap index has dropped 1.6% to 6172.

Wipro has surged over 5% to Rs 566. Satyam and Infosys have flared up over 2.5% each to Rs 429 and Rs 2,078, respectively.

ICICI Bank has advanced 2.4% to Rs 841. ONGC, TCS, Maruti, Larsen & Toubro and BHEL have gained around 2% each at Rs 791, Rs 1,188, Rs 797, Rs 1,414 and Rs 2,049, respectively.

Hindalco has shed 3.5% to Rs 129. Hero Honda has slipped over 2% to Rs 669.

Grasim, Tata Steel and NTPC have dropped around 1.5% each to Rs 2,067, Rs 414 and Rs 135, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,467 stocks traded so far, 1,613 have declined, 784 have advanced and 70 are unchanged.
