Sensex surges 86pts; Pfizer soars 3%

The Sensex scaled to touch a new life-time intra-day high of 9487. The index is now up 86 points at 9476.

Grasim has surged nearly 3% to Rs 1,415. HDFC and Gujarat Ambuja are up 2.7% each at Rs 1,226 and Rs 81.40, respectively. ACC has gained 2.5% at Rs 544 and Dr.Reddy's is up 2.3% at Rs 985.

Maruti, ITC, Hero Honda, BHEL, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Satyam, ICICI Bank and TCS have moved up 1-2% each. 

Advances are ahead of declines - out of 2,508 stocks traded so far, 2,089 have advanced, 366 have declined while the rest are unchanged.

Among other stocks - Pfizer has soared 12% to Rs 1,155. Merck has surged 10% to Rs 585. Thermax, Wyeth, India Cement, GlaxoSmithKline Pharma, Tamilnadu Newsprint, Ballarpur Industries, Indo Gulf, Hinduja TMT, Vijaya Bank, Novartis, Videocon International and Syngenta have gained in the range of 4-6% each.

JSW Steel has declined 2% to Rs 226. Gillette India and Neyveli Lignite are down 1% each.
