Sensex surges further; IT index up 2%

The Sensex has touched a high of 17,054 and is now at 17,049, up 196 points.

The BSE IT index has advanced 2% each to 4,511. Oil & gas, TECk and  Healthcare are up around 1.5% each.

The NSE Nifty is at 5,055, up 50 points.

SBI and Sterlite have advanced 3% each to Rs 2,152 and Rs 770, respectively.

Reliance Communications and Sun Pharmaceuticals have added around 2% each to Rs 306 and Rs 1,415, respectively.

Wipro, BHEL, Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Steel, Hero Honda, ICICI Bank and Reliance are up around 1.5% each.

NTPC and ITC are down marginally.

 

The market breadth is positive, out of 2,571 shares traded, 1,612 have advanced and 875 have declined so far on the BSE.
