The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 335 points at 13,666, and has since slipped deeper into red. The index is now down 684 points 13,317.
Reliance Infrastructure has slumped over 8% to Rs 853. Jaiprakash Associates has plunged 7.5% to Rs 146.
TCS has shed 7% at Rs 751. BHEL and Satyam have tumbled 6.5% each to Rs 1,585 and Rs 380, respectively.
ICICI Bank has slipped over 6% to Rs 613. Wipro and ONGC have dropped 5.5% each to Rs 396 and Rs 967, respectively.
SBI and DLF have declined over 5% each to Rs 1,433 and Rs 444, respectively.
All index stocks are in red with losses in excess of 2% each.
