Sensex touches 6,900-mark, tech stocks firm

Shrugging off its range-bound trend, the Sensex has scaled up to a high of 6,900 amid impressive gains in tech majors and other select heavyweights.

The Sensex at current trades is firm at 6,896 (up 36 points), while the Nifty has moved up 12 points to 2,124.

Infosys has upped its gains by 1.13% (Rs 25) to Rs 22,58. TCS and Satyam have gained a per cent each at Rs 1,273 (up Rs 9) and Rs 478 (up Rs 4), respectively. Wipro has firmed up 1.13% (Rs 8) to Rs 730.

Hindalco has added 1.67% (Rs 19) to Rs 1,137. Bharti has moved up 2.27% (Rs 5) to Rs 232, while Tisco has logged 1.83% gains (Rs 6) to Rs 340.

SBI is up with a modest gain of Rs 3 at Rs 689. HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are trading lower by a per cent each at Rs 590 (down Rs 3) and Rs 429 (down Rs 4), respectively.

Dr. Reddy's has gained 1.38% (Rs 10) to Rs 733. Other pharma counters are displaying a divergent trend.

Grasim has advanced nearly 3% (Rs 32) to Rs 1,121, while Gujarat Ambuja and ACC are flat at Rs 462 and Rs 382, respectively.

Hero Honda, Maruti and Tata Motors are up a per cent each at Rs 544, Rs 438 and Rs 423 (up Rs 3), respectively. Bajaj, however, has slipped a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 1,229.
