Sensex trading firm; Reliance up 2%

The Sensex has soared to a high of 17,270 and is now moving strong at 17,259, up 127 points. The NSE Nifty is at 5,127, up 37 points.

The BSE Oil and gas index has soared around 2% to 10,538. PSU,metal and FMCG indices are up over 1% each.

Reliance has topped the list of gainers on the BSE, up 2% at Rs 2,218. Maruti, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hero Honda and Sterlite have advanced around 1.5% each at Rs 1,623, Rs 1,083, Rs 1,712 and Rs 866, respectively.

Tata Steel, ITC, HDFC Bank and ONGC are the other prominent gainers on the BSE so far.

ICICI Bank, Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance Infrastrcuture and Tata Power are the marginal losers on the BSE, down 0.5% each.

The market breadth continues to be positive, out of 2,487 shares traded, 1,584 have advanced and 831 have declined so far on the BSE.
