Sensex trims gains, up 19 pts

Profit-taking in select heavyweight & tech majors, and selling pressure in select old economy stocks has seen the index pare gains in mid-morning trades. The Sensex is now up 19 points at 6,582. The Nifty, however, is down four points at 2,068.

While 827 stocks have advanced, 1,495 declined and 49 have remained unchanged on the BSE so far.

Reliance has shed some gains on profit-taking and is quoted at Rs 534 - up Rs 6 or 1.20%. While ITC is up a per cent (Rs 10) at Rs 1,328, HLL is down a tad at Rs 144.

Infosys is trading off-highs at Rs 2,080 - up Rs 18. Satyam (up Rs 2 to Rs 415) and Wipro (up a rupee to Rs 753) have also pared gains on profit-taking.

Hero Honda has advanced 2.38% (Rs 13) to Rs 564. Other auto majors are displaying a mixed trend.

ACC has attracted buying support, and is dealt at Rs 333 - up Rs 7 or 2.30%. Other cement majors are trading with marginal gains.

ONGC and BHEL have declined a per cent each to Rs 817 (down Rs 7) and Rs 747 (down Rs 8), respectively. While L&T has lost 1.55% (Rs 16) to Rs 989, HPCL has slipped a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 400.

Ispat is leading the volume table with over 1.45 crore shares traded on the BSE so far, followed by NTPC (38.60 lakh), Sail (36.72 lakh), Welspun Gujarat (23.63 lakh) and Reliance (21.77 lakh), respectively.
