The Sensex opened 10 points lower at 8,804, and soon touched a low of 8,777. The index, thereafter, rebounded into the positive zone and touched a high of 8,859. The index has slipped back into red and is now down 28 points at 8,785.
Mahindra & Mahindra and Ranbaxy have plunged over 3% each to Rs 278 and Rs 181, respectively.
Tata Power has shed 2.5% at Rs 697. Sterlite, Sun Pharma and Wipro have slipped nearly 2% each to Rs 239, Rs 1,083 and Rs 214, respectively.
Tata Steel and Jaiprakash Associates have declined over 1.5% each to Rs 176 and Rs 65, respectively.
Reliance has gained 2.6% at Rs 1,163. Reliance Communications has advanced 1.5% to Rs 170, and HDFC has added 1% to Rs 1,415.
