Sensex up 1,103pts; NTPC, REL, BHEL lead

The Sensex is now up 1,103 points at 17,833.

The NSE Nifty is up 371 points at 5,271.

NTPC has zoomed 15.7% to Rs 228. Reliance Energy (REL) has soared 14% to Rs 1,955.

BHEL has surged nearly 13% to Rs 2,240. Satyam and Reliance Communications have rallied around 12% each to Rs 398 and Rs 642, respectively.

HDFC Bank and Bajaj Auto have gained 10.8% each at Rs 1,595 and Rs 2,281, respectively.

DLF and TCS have soared over 10% each to Rs 957 and Rs 880, respectively. Reliance has rallied 9.5% to Rs 2,585.

The market breadth has turned positive - out of 2,614 stocks traded, 1,316 have advanced, 1,267 have declined and 31 are unchanged.
