Sensex up 128pts; NTPC surges 3%

The Sensex is now up 128 points at 12,583.

NTPC has surged 2.7% to Rs 151. Tata Motors, BHEL and HDFC Bank have rallied around 2% each to Rs 683, Rs 2,194 and Rs 918, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro and Wipro have advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 1,550 and Rs 526, respectively.

Satyam, Reliance Communications, Tata Steel and Hero Honda are up over 1% each.
