Sensex up 139pts; Infosys surges 5%

The Sensex opened 83 points higher at 17,610, but soon slipped into the negative zone to a low of 17,430. Fresh buying at lower levels saw the index rebound into the positive zone and touch a high of 17,689 - up 259 points from the day's low.

The index is now up 139 points at 17,666.

The NSE Nifty is up 34 points at 5,167.

Infosys has soared 5% to Rs 1,554. Satyam has surged 4.5% to Rs 408, and TCS has rallied 3.5% to Rs 914. Wipro has gained 2.7% at Rs 421.

Reliance Energy has advanced nearly 2% to Rs 2,025.

ACC, Reliance and Ranbaxy have moved up around 1.5% each to Rs 785, Rs 2,460 and Rs 379, respectively.

Maruti and Reliance Communications have also moved up nearly 1.5% each to Rs 810 and Rs 653, respectively.

Tata Motors has added 1.3% to Rs 724.

DLF has tumbled over 2% to Rs 827. Larsen & Toubro has shed 1.5% at Rs 3,575.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Bajaj Auto have slipped 1.3% each to Rs 650 and Rs 2,250, respectively.

Bharti Airtel, HDFC and Cipla are down 1% each at Rs 853, Rs 2,895 and Rs 193, respectively.
