Sensex up 16 pts in early trades

The Sensex opened with a steady gain of five points from its previous close at 6,504 and moved up to a high of 6,529 on selective gains in old economy stocks. While the Sensex is now up 16 points at 6,515, the Nifty has gained six points to 1,998.

Reliance and ONGC have clocked a per cent gain each to Rs 525 (up Rs 4) and Rs 853 (up Rs 5), respectively. ITC is down Rs 7 at Rs 1,490. HLL is up a rupee at Rs 131.

SBI and HDFC Bank are up a per cent each at Rs 653 (up Rs 4) and Rs 542 (up Rs 3), respectively. ICICI Bank, however, is down Rs 2 at Rs 395.

Grasim has logged 1.30% gains (Rs 15) to Rs 1,138. Other cement counters, too, have resumed in the green.

Reliance Energy has added 1.49% (Rs 7) to Rs 483. BHEL has gained 1.22% (Rs 10) to Rs 865.

Infosys, however, has slipped a per cent (Rs 12) to Rs 2,130, while Wipro is down Rs 2 at Rs 662.
