Sensex up 161pts in early trades; banks lead

The Sensex opened 126 points higher at 9,550 as global markets continued to rally. The index is now up 161 points 9,585.

HDFC Bank has zoomed 7% to Rs 947, and ICICI Bank has soared over 5% to Rs 365.

HDFC and Bharti Airtel have surged over 4% each to Rs 1,593 and Rs 617, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Steel and SBI have rallied over 3% each to Rs 87, Rs 201 and Rs 1,056, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro has gained 2.5% at Rs 621. Reliance Infrastructure, DLF and Wipro have advaned around 2% each to Rs 541, Rs 171 and Rs 244, respectively.

 

NTPC, however, has slipped 1% to Rs 182.
