Sensex up 165pts; Tata Steel surges 5%

The Sensex is now up 165 points at 15,287.

Tata Steel and Mahindra & Mahindra have soared 4.5% each to Rs 687 and Rs 705, respectively. NTPC has zoomed 4% to Rs 173.

Maruti has surged 3.8% to Rs 865. Tata Motors, Hindustan Unilever and Ranbaxy have gained around 3% each at Rs 705, Rs 209 and Rs 389, respectively.

Reliance has moved up 2.5% to Rs 1,956. ONGC has advanced over 2% to Rs 856.

SBI, Cipla, TCS and Wipro are the other prominent gainers.

Bajaj Auto has slipped 1.4% to Rs 2,332.

Out of 2,698 stocks traded so far, 1,566 have advanced, 1,070 have declined and 62 are unchanged.
