Sensex up 173pts; BHEL surges 4%

The Sensex is now up 173 points at 15,265.

Hindalco has zoomed 6.7% to Rs 176. BHEL has soared 4% to Rs 1,707.

Reliance has surged 2.5% to Rs 1,763. Tata Motors, ICICI Bank and Larsen & Toubro have rallied around 2% each to Rs 756, Rs 988 and Rs 2,427, respectively.

ITC, Ambuja Cements and HDFC have gained 1.7% each at Rs 155, Rs 129 and Rs 1,988, respectively.

Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Energy, Grasim, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC, Tata Steel, SBI and ACC are the other major gainers.

Hindustan Unilever has shed 1.7% to Rs 202, and TCS has slipped 1.4% to Rs 1,145.

The market breadth is positive - out of 2,527 stocks traded so far, 1,477 have advanced, 974 have declined and 76 are unchanged.
