Sensex up 175pts; breadth firm

The Sensex is now up 175 points at 13,956.

HDFC has soared 5% to Rs 1,676. Tata Steel and Bajaj Auto have surged over 3.5% each to Rs 583 and Rs 2,655, respectively.

ITC has rallied 3.3% to Rs 166. Hindalco and Wipro have gained 2.7% each at Rs 148 and Rs 564, respectively.

SBI has advanced over 2% to Rs 1,148. Reliance Communications and Satyam have moved up 1.8% each to Rs 472 and Rs 461, respectively.

Ranbaxy is the sole loser among the index stocks.

Out of 2,384 stocks traded so far, 1,605 have advanced, 689 have declined and 90 are unchanged.
