Sensex up 177pts; Tata Motors lead

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 96 points at 12,793. The index soon rallied to a high of 12,902.

The index is now up 177 points at 12,874.

Tata Motors has surged 2.7% to Rs 746. Satyam, HDFC Bank and Dr.Reddy's have rallied around 2.5% each to Rs 445, Rs 959 and Rs 635, respectively.

Reliance Communications, Cipla, Larsen & Toubro and Bharti Airtel have advanced around 2% each to Rs 410, Rs 227, Rs 1,457 and Rs 732, respectively.

HDFC and Hindalco have gained 1.8% each at Rs 1,528 and Rs 132, respectively.

Gujarat Ambuja has dropped 1.5% to Rs 112.
