Sensex up 18pts; Ranbaxy slips over 3%

The Sensex has pared most of its gains, and is now marginally up 18 points at 9938.

Larsen & Toubro, now, leads the upmove with a gain of over 7% at Rs 2,321. BHEL is up 2.4% at Rs 1,840.

Dr.Reddy's has pared some gains, but is still up 5.6% at Rs 1,182.

Grasim has gained 4.2% at Rs 1,513.

NTPC and Tata Power have added 1.5% each to Rs 116 and Rs 478, respectively.

HDFC is up 1.4% at Rs 1,358.

Tata Motors and Hero Honda have spurted over 1% each to Rs 718 and Rs 866, respectively.

Ranbaxy has plunged over 3% to Rs 386. Gujarat Ambuja has dropped 2.4% to Rs 86.40.

ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have declined over 2% each to Rs 596 and Rs 747, respectively. SBI is down 1.2% at Rs 876.

Reliace Energy, Wipro, Maruti, Satyam and HLL are also on slippery ground.

The market breadth is extremely negative. Out of 2,505 stocks traded so far, 1,746 have declined, 704 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.

Larsen & Toubro leads the value chart with a turnover of Rs 143.07 crore followed by Tata Steel (Rs 82.63 crore), Reliance (Rs 67.92 crore), Suzlon (Rs 67.38 crore) and SBI (Rs 66.47 crore).

HFCL tops the volume chart with trades of around 54.40 lakh shares followed by GV Films (48.31 lakh), Ashok Leyland (36.86 lakh), Radha Madhav (34.19 lakh) and Cummins (30.53 lakh).
