Sensex up 19 pts, auto stocks firm up

After recouping from its mid-noon slide, the Sensex now has gained 19 points at 6,464 following steady buying support in select old and new economy stocks. The Nifty is up six points at 1,992.

ONGC has scaled up 1.20% (Rs 11) to Rs 887. ITC and Reliance are still trading with a per cent loss each at Rs 1,468 (down Rs 10) and Rs 539 (down Rs 4), respectively.

Maruti has gained nearly 2% (Rs 9) to Rs 442, and Bajaj has moved up 1.19% (Rs 13) to Rs 1,140. While Tata Motors has logged 1.32% gains (Rs 6) to Rs 435, Hero Honda is up Rs 3 ast Rs 554.

SBI has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 6) to Rs 621. HDFC Bank is subdued with a loss of Rs 3 at Rs 532.

Ranbaxy has moved up 1.32% (Rs 13) to Rs 978. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla are trading on a flat note at Rs 655 and Rs 278, respectively.

L&T at Rs 1,017 (up Rs 14 or 1.38%), HDFC at Rs 753 (up Rs 17 or 2.28%), HPCL at Rs 331 (up Rs 4 or 1.16%) and Tata Power at Rs 368 (up Rs 4) have upped their gains on further buying support.

Infosys (down Rs 6 to Rs 2,057) is still languishing in negative territory. While Wipro is up a per cent (Rs 5) at Rs 643, Satyam is flat at Rs 431.
