Sensex up 21pts; Tata Steel spurts 2%

The Sensex is now up 21 points at 12,258.

Tata Motors has rallied 2% to Rs 853, and Tata Steel has surged 1.7% to Rs 505.

Reliance has gained 1.5% at Rs 1,172, and Bharti Airtel has added 1% to Rs 474.

Reliance Communications, Maruti, Cipla and HDFC Bank are the other notable gainers.

Bajaj Auto and Dr.Reddy's have slipped 1% each to Rs 2,888 and Rs 742, respectively.

HLL, TCS, ITC, Grasim and HDFC are the other notable losers.

Out of 2,426 stocks traded so far, 1,178 have declined, 1,166 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
