Sensex up 223pts; M&M, Maruti weak

The Sensex is now up 223 points at 15,581.

The NSE Nifty is up 65 points at 4,689.

DLF has soared over 5% to Rs 638. Jaiprakash (JP) Associates has surged 4.6% to Rs 229.

Hindalco has rallied 3.7% to Rs 180, and Satyam has gained 3.5% at Rs 377.

Larsen & Toubro has moved up nearly 3% to Rs 2,885. ICICI Bank and NTPC have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 859 and Rs 191, respectively.

ITC, Infosys and Reliance Energy are up nearly 2% each at Rs 190, Rs 1,360 and Rs 1,220, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has tumbled 4.3% to Rs 632, and Maruti has dropped 3.8% to Rs 808.

Bharti Airtel has shed 3.6% at Rs 750. Ambuja Cements has slipped 2.4% to Rs 118, and HDFC has declined over 1% to Rs 2,470.

Out of 2,538 stocks traded so far, 1,463 have declined, 1,007 have advanced and 68 are unchanged.
