Sensex up 226pts; all index stocks gain

The Sensex is now up 226 points at 13,857.

There are no losers among the index stocks.

SBI has surged 4.8% to Rs 1,205. ICICI Bank has soared 4.4% to Rs 934, and HDFC Bank has added 2.8% to Rs 1,028.

TCS, Hero Honda, Hindalco and HDFC have surged around 2% each to Rs 1,305, Rs 747, Rs 172 and Rs 1,552, respectively.

Satyam has advanced 1.8% to Rs 489. Infosys and Gujarat Ambuja have added 1.5% each to Rs 2,215 and Rs 141, respectively.

Reliance Energy, Bharti Airtel, Maruti, Reliance Communications, Tata Motors, Cipla, BHEL, Ranbaxy and Grasim are the other major gainers.

The market breadth is extremely positive - out of 2,221 stocks traded so far, 1,676 have advanced, 503 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
