Sensex up 227pts; cements stocks surge

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 209 points at 14,458, and soon rallied to a high of 14,555. The index is now up 277 points at 14,526.

All index stocks are in positive zone.

Gujarat Ambuja has soared 4.6% to Rs 137 amid reports of an open offer by Holcim at Rs 154 per share.

ACC has surged 3.7% to Rs 988, and Grasim has moved up 2.7% to Rs 2,801.

BHEL has rallied nearly 3% to Rs 1,714. HDFC and Tata Steel have advanced around 2.5% each to Rs 1,948 and Rs 583, respectively.

Satyam, Maruti, Tata Motors and Bharti Airtel are up over 2% each to Rs 427, Rs 783, Rs 632 and Rs 865, respectively.
