Sensex up 228pts; Cipla gains 5%

The Sensex touched a high of 11,878, and is now up 228 points at 11,875.

Cipla stands firm with a gain of over 5% at Rs 261. ONGC has surged 3.6% to Rs 1,370. HDFC has advanced over 3% to Rs 1,294.

Tata Steel has rallied 2.7% to Rs 640, and Hindalco is up 2.5% at Rs 211.

Wipro has surged 2.6% to Rs 540. Infosys has moved up 2.5% to Rs 3,226.

Out of 2,341 stocks traded so far, 1,590 have advanced, 689 have declined and the rest are unchanged.

Debutant R Systems leads the value chart with a turnover of Rs 108.84 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 71.48 crore), Hindustan Zinc (Rs 58.68 crore), Suzlon (Rs 58.11 crore) and Pratibha (Rs 53.70 crore).

R Systems also tops the volume chart with trades of around 41.37 lakh shares followed by Prism Cements (23.73 lakh), Rama Newsprint (20.45 lakh), Ashok Leyland (19.7 lakh) and Hindustan Motors (18.63 lakh).
