Sensex up 252pts; HDFC Bank, Tata Steel lead

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 209 points at 16,817, and touched a high of 16,897. The index is now up 252 points at 16,860.

The NSE Nifty has moved up 77 points to 4,915.

HDFC Bank has soared 4.4% to Rs 1,460. Tata Steel has surged nearly 3% to Rs 731.

Tata Motors, Reliance Energy and ICICI Bank have rallied nearly 2.5% each to Rs 710, Rs 1,572 and Rs 1,088, respectively.

DLF and Mahindra & Mahindra have gained around 2% each at Rs 809 and Rs 590, respectively.

Satyam has slipped 2.3% to Rs 411. Infosys has shed 1.7% at Rs 1,518, and Wipro is down over 1% at Rs 417.
