Sensex up 292pts; L&T, Tata Steel up 7%

The Sensex has retreated a bit, and is now up 292 points at 10,958.

After opening with a positive gap of 69 points at 10,735, the index has continued to surge ahead. The index touched a high of 11,051.

Tata Steel and Larsen & Toubro have surged nearly 7% each to Rs 547 and Rs 2,449, respectively.

HDFC and Bajaj Auto have rallied 5% each to Rs 1,210 and Rs 2,925, respectively.

BHEL and Infosys have soared over 4% each to Rs 1,980 and Rs 2,950, respectively.

Cipla, ITC, HLL and Grasim are the other major gainers among the Sensex stocks.

Out of 2,328 stocks traded so far, 1,876 have advanced, 406 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
