The Sensex opened 191 points higher at 10,155 and soon touched a low of 10,096. The index, thereafter, has gathered strength and is now up 308 points at 10,275.
Sterlite has zoomed 12% to Rs 276, and Tata Steel has soared 10.5% to Rs 210.
Larsen & Toubro has surged 6.5% to Rs 927. Reliance Infrastructure and BHEL have rallied around 6% each to Rs 596 and Rs 1,489, respectively.
ICICI Bank has moved up 5.5% to Rs 455. ONGC and NTPC have gained nearly 5% each at Rs 779 and Rs 159, respectively.
Hindalco and Jaiprakash Associates have advanced 4.7% each to Rs 63 and Rs 92, respectively.
Reliance and Tata Power have added 4.5% each to Rs 1,272 and Rs 770, respectively.

HDFC Bank and Maruti have slipped over 1% each to Rs 1,074 and Rs 591, respectively.
