Sensex up 34pts; Dr.Reddy's surges, Ranbaxy slips

After touching a new high of 10,195, the Sensex slipped to touch a low of 10,113 (which also is its yesterday's close) - down 82 points from the peak. The index has now moved up 34 points to 10,147.

Dr.Reddy's has pared some gains, but is still up 4% at Rs 1,219. The stock had touched a high of Rs 1,250 following the announcement made by the company that it was won the Betapharm bid. On the other hand, Ranbaxy has slipped nearly 2% to Rs 438.

Larsen & Tourbo, Hero Honda and Satyam have advanced 1.5% each to Rs 2,402, Rs 906 and Rs 748, respectively.

ACC, Grasim and Tata Motors are up 1% each.

HLL, ONGC and Hindalco are down 1% each to Rs 233, Rs 1,143 and Rs 161, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly positive with over 63% of the traded stocks having gained. Out of 1,935 stocks traded so far, 1,229 have advanced, 660 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
