Sensex up 38 pts, profit-taking gathers steam

The market has further shed gains from its early highs, with increased profit-taking in most of the counters dragging the index below the 7,200-mark.

While the Sensex is now up 38 points at 7,183, the Nifty, too, has erased gains to 2,184 - up five points.

ITC is up a per cent (Rs 12) at Rs 1,692, and Reliance Industries is up half a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 616. While ONGC has edged lower by a per cent (Rs 10) to Rs 920, Reliance Energy is trading weaker at Rs 624 - sdown Rs 4.

SBI and HDFC Bank are up a per cent each at Rs 715 (up Rs 5) and Rs 646 (up Rs 6), respectively. ICICI Bank is marginally up at Rs 423.

Infosys at Rs 2,330 (up Rs 12), Wipro at Rs 725 (up Rs 15 or 2.14%) and Satyam at Rs 494 (up Rs 3) have shed further gains. TCS, however, has slipped into the red to Rs 1,304 (down Rs 6), after opening on a higher note.

While Ranbaxy and Cipla are up a per cent each at Rs 1,057 (up Rs 8) and Rs 316 (up Rs 3), respectively, Dr. Reddy's is trading lower at Rs 769.

Hero Honda is unchanged with a per cent gain (Rs 5) at Rs 586. Bajaj (down Rs 16 or 1.22%) is still exhibiting weak trends, and Maruti is down a tad at Rs 448.

HDFC has gained 1.57% (Rs 14) to Rs 918. Bharti at Rs 245 (up Rs 4 or 1.47%) and Tisco at Rs 361 (up Rs 7 or 1.88%) are trading with steady gains.
