Sensex up 40pts; JP Associates surges 4%

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 110 points at 15,467, but soon slipped into red to a low of 15,331 - down 136 points from the day's open. The index rebounded into the positive zone and touched a high of 15,509.

The Sensex and is now up 40 points at 15,397.

The NSE Nifty is up six points at 4,630.

New entrant Jaiprakash (JP) Associates has surged 4% to Rs 228. The stock has replaced Bajaj Auto in the Sensex today.

ITC, Tata Steel and Satyam have rallied 2% each to Rs 189, Rs 711 and Rs 371, respectively.

Infosys has gained 1.7% at Rs 1,357. Tata Motors and Hindalco have advanced 1.5% each to Rs 630 and Rs 176, respectively.

DLF and ICICI Bank are up 1.3% each at Rs 615 and Rs 848, respectively.

Bharti Airtel has plunged over 3% to Rs 754. TCS and Maruti have shed 1.7% each to Rs 765 and Rs 825, respectively.

ACC, HDFC Bank and Ambuja Cements have slipped around 1.5% each to Rs 767, Rs 1,278 and Rs 119, respectively.

HDFC, ONGC and Cipla are down 1% each at Rs 2,474, Rs 977 and Rs 199, respectively.
