Sensex up 42pts; Hindustan Unilever down 2%

The Sensex opened 20 points higher at 9,035, and soon touched a high of 9,112. The index has since pared gains and is now up 42 points at 9,057.

Wipro and Mahindra & Mahindra has rallied around 3.5% each to Rs 217 and Rs 294, respectively. Grasim has surged over 3% to Rs 1,384.

HDFC and Maruti have moved up around 2% each to Rs 1,395 and Rs 629, respectively.

DLF, Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Steel have advanced nearly 2% each to Rs 162, Rs 510 and Rs 174, respectively.

Sterlite has gained 1.5% at Rs 258. Jaiprakash Associates, Tata Motors, Ranbaxy, BHEL and SBI are up over 1% each.

 

Hindustan Unilever, however, has shed 1.7% at Rs 249.
