Sensex up 42pts; NTPC surges 3%

The Sensex is now up 42 points of 12,407.

NTPC has surged 2.7% to Rs 133. HDFC has advanced 2% to Rs 1,419.

Maruti and Dr.Reddy's have advanced 1.7% each to Rs 956 and Rs 718, respectively.

ACC, Ranbaxy, Grasim, Bharti Airtel, Satyam and Tata Motors are up 1% each.

HLL has slipped 1.3% to Rs 240.

Out of 2,527 stocks traded so far, 1,622 have advanced, 827 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
