Sensex up 47 pts, NTPC soars 5%

Subdued trend in tech stocks coupled with profit-taking in select old economy stocks has seen the index shed gains marginally in early noon trades.

While the Sensex is now up 47 points at 6,800, the Nifty is steady at 2,107 - up 15 points.

Reliance (up Rs 7 or 1.30%) has trimmed gains on profit-taking, with volumes of over 15.40 lakh. ONGC is unchanged with a per cent gain (Rs 10) at Rs 936. HLL is marginally down at Rs 149.

SBI, on volumes of over 5.32 lakh, is trading firm with a surge of 1.89% (Rs 13) at Rs 679. HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are up a per cent each at Rs 543 and Rs 399, respectively.

NTPC has soared 5.31% (Rs 4) to Rs 87, while Tata Power has jumped 2.28% (Rs 9) to Rs 384. L&T at Rs 1,108 (up Rs 15 or 1.37%) and HDFC at Rs 776 (up Rs 9 or 1.23%) are holding on to their gains. Hindalco, however, has slipped into the red to Rs 1,099 - down Rs 10.

Bajaj has moved up 1.17% (Rs 15) to Rs 1,288, and Maruti is up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 455. Hero Honda is trading lower by Rs 3 at Rs 555.

ACC has inched up by 1.27% (Rs 5) to Rs 378. Other cement majors are trading with steady gains.

Wipro (down Rs 4 to Rs 718) is trading on a lacklustre note, and Satyam is down a tad at Rs 465. Tisco is up a per cent (Rs 7) at Rs 1,288.
